Buenos Aires, Argentina

PRE - LAND OF THE GLACIERS

Explore the wilds of the Argentine Patagonia by ascending Mount Frias in a 4x4 vehicle and enjoying the wonders Los Glaciares National Park with the opportunity to trek across Perito Moreno Glacier.

Due to the adventurous nature of this program and the amount of walking over uneven terrain, we do not recommend it for guests with walking difficulties of for those who use a wheelchair or scooter.

Special Note: Guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read the airline stipulations below with regards to bringing this equipment on the tour.

DAY 1

Once you fly into the Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires, you will be met near the luggage claim area and transferred to the Emperador Hotel or similar for the night.

Check in is 3:00pm. Although every effort will be made to have the rooms available earlier, this cannot be guaranteed. If your flight arrives early in the day, you may wish to book an extra night to guarantee immediate check-in.

The remainder of the day and evening will be at your leisure with all meals on your own.

DAY 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will transfer to the Buenos Aires domestic airport. Bring only what is necessary for the next few days for the trip to El Calafate, including medications, valuables and documents. The bulk of your luggage should be left in the hotel storage with all the bags labeled with your name and ship cabin number. They will be transferred to the pier for embarkation on Day 4.

When the flight lands in El Calafate, you will transfer to the 4-star Xelena Hotel in El Calafate. Located in the southwestern tip of the Argentine Patagonia, the town is known for its easy access to the Los Glaciares National Park, home of the spectacular Perito Moreno glacier and hundreds of others.

After lunch on your own, you will begin your exploration of the wilderness on the outskirts of El Calafate by ascending Mount Frias in a 4x4 vehicle. As you ascend the trail, you will stop on occasion to take in the spectacular views of Argentino Lake and beautiful Torres del Paine National Park. If it’s a clear day, you may be able to see Mount Fitz Roy, the highest peak in Los Glaciares National Park. The journey up and down Mount Frias will be a magnificent introduction to the area’s natural beauty.

Upon returning to the Xelena Hotel, you will have time to relax and freshen up before dinner at the hotel.

DAY 3

DAY 2

On this day guests will have one of two options to be decided with your guide when you are on the program:

Option 1 - Safari Nautico

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will transfer to Los Glaciares National Park, an expansive protected area covered by an ice mantle. After reaching the Patagonic Andean forest, you will pause for photos at the Curve of Sighs, a lookout where you will have the first view of the Perito Moreno Glacier rising majestically above the landscape.

Next proceed to the "Bajo de las Sombras" port located 7km from the glacier catwalks. Once there, board a large catamaran style boat to navigate the Lago Rico where you will be able to appreciate the amazing walls of the Perito Moreno Glacier, its icebergs and its continuous and thunderous collapses over the Lago Rico. One stop is made approximately 300 meters (984 feet) from the southern wall of the glacier, to take a closer look at the landscape. No physical effort is required on this option.

Return to the National Park for lunch at one of its restaurants. After lunch join the rest of the group and approach the glacier by walking down catwalks that will present several other panoramic viewpoints of this wonderful creation of Mother Nature. Chances are, you will see and hear large chunks of ice calving from the glacier and thundering into the water of Lago Argentino. It will be an experience that you will not soon forget.

Option 2 - Mini Trek

Guests participating in this option must be between the ages of 10 and 65 years old and in good physical condition to participate. Guests older than 65 will not be able to participate due to insurance liability coverage provided by the operator for the trek. This is non-negotiable.

Due to the level of effort and difficulty, the mini-trekking activity is also not suitable for guests that are overweight, pregnant, have a physical or mental condition that affects attention, walking or coordination, have a peripheral or central cardiovascular condition, use a stent, pacemaker or other prosthesis, take anticoagulants, have respiratory conditions such as COPD, asthma or emphysema, or have varicose veins degree III. For this glacier experience, the trekking is moderate. The ice surface over which you will walk is irregular, but firm and safe. While the trekking itself is not overly vigorous, this excursion is considered strenuous.

Following an early breakfast at the hotel, you will transfer to Los Glaciares National Park, an expansive protected area covered by an ice mantle. After reaching the Patagonic Andean forest, you will pause for photos at the Curve of Sighs, a lookout where you will have the first view of the Perito Moreno Glacier rising majestically above the landscape.

A 20-minute sail across the Rico Arm will present breathtaking views of the glacier’s front walls. Arriving at the opposite shore, you will be greeted by specialized mountain guides, who will lead you to a small shelter. From here, small groups will follow their guides along the lake’s shore, towards the edge of the glacier. Once on the ice, you will strap on your crampons and be briefed on their use.

During the two-hour trek that follows, you will be introduced to the fascinating glacial landscape, with its small lagoons, gullies, crevasses and ice formations of the most incredible blues. You will also learn about the general glaciology of the region and Perito Moreno Glacier in particular. After your glacier hike, a stroll through the forest will bring you back to the shelter. A box lunch is provided during this tour.

Later, you will join the rest of the group and approach the glacier by walking down catwalks that will present several other panoramic viewpoints of this wonderful creation of Mother Nature. Chances are, you will see and hear large chunks of ice calving from the glacier and thundering into the water of Lago Argentino. It will be an experience that you will not soon forget.

After this day which is sure to amaze, all guests will return to the hotel, where dinner will be served.

DAY 4

Following breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will transfer to the airport for the flight back to Buenos Aires. Upon arrival, you will transfer to the pier for embarkation. If time permits, you will first enjoy a tour highlighting the city’s major neighborhoods and attractions.

Points of interest include the main square Plaza de Mayo, which is surrounded by the Casa Rosada presidential headquarters, the colonial town hall and the cathedral. You may also drive to Caminito and see the colorful tin houses of La Boca and proceed through the elegant Barrio Norte on the way to the Recoleta Cemetery, an above-ground cemetery lined with mausoleums and statues.

PRE - AUTHENTIC BUENOS AIRES - 2024

Experience Buenos Aires like a local porteño by watching a traditional tango performance, visiting atmospheric neighborhoods and enjoying an Argentine asado of grilled meats at country ranch.

DAY 1

After flying in to Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires, you will proceed through Customs and claim your luggage. You will then be met and transferred your hotel.

Day 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will spend the day at a traditional estancia ranch in the countryside, a beautiful land that is home to the gaucho. The owners will be your hosts, and during your stay they will regale you with stories about the differences between modern country life and country life years ago.

Lunch will be a hearty asado of grilled meats with empanadas, accompanied by excellent Argentinean wines.

Continuing on, you will pass the city hall and Metropolitan Cathedral, which is adorned with frescoes and elaborate artwork. You will also see Casa Rosado, the executive mansion. President Juan Peron and his wife Eva, more affectionately known as Evita, delivered numerous speeches from the balcony.

After touring the city, you will return to your hotel for lunch on own.

Your evening will be spent watching an authentic tango performance over dinner. Although the exact origin of the tango is unclear, there is no denying that the sultry dance is mesmerizing. After the tango performance, you will return to the hotel for the evening.

DAY 4

After breakfast and check out, transfer to the ship for embarkation.

Discover Brazil’s extraordinary diversity by visiting the natural wonder Iguazu Falls in the heart of the jungle, the vibrant and most populous city of São Paulo and Santos, Latin America’s busiest port.

Note: Guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

DAY 1

After disembarking from the ship, you will transfer to the Buenos Aires domestic airport for the flight to Iguazu. Upon arriving in Iguazu, you will transfer to the Loi Suites, where you will enjoy free time to relax before dinner at the hotel.

DAY 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will transfer to the Iguazu Falls National Park. You will then hop aboard the eco-train for a unique ride to the natural phenomenon Devil’s Throat. There, the Iguazu River plummets straight down more than 250 feet, forming rainbow after rainbow. You will also have the opportunity to explore the park’s lower interpretive trails, adding yet another dimension to the jungle experience.

Following lunch at a restaurant within the national park, enjoy a motorized boat cruise (zodiac adventure ride) which allows you to view the falls from water level and get close enough to feel the spray and energy created by this great mass of falling water. Please note that you may get extremely wet on the zodiacs depending on how close your boat gets to the falls. Along the way, your guide will explain all about the trees, birds, falls and more.

Note: Dry bags are provided for belongings. The zodiac loading area is not accessible to wheelchairs. There are approximately 100 steps down / up to reach the boats with no ramps. The zodiac tour is optional and any guests wishing to remain ashore can do so. There are shaded areas and benches to sit on throughout the park. Guests may wish to carry some dry clothing or bring a bathing suit to change into after this adventure.

The day’s adventure will end with a moderate hike through one of the circuits on the Argentine side of the national park. Traversing the catwalks will be particularly memorable.

Back at the hotel, dinner will be served with the remainder of the evening at your leisure.

DAY 3

After breakfast at the hotel and check-out, you will transfer to the Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls National Park for yet another perspective of the roaring cascades and surrounding jungle. To enhance your understanding of São Paulo’s diversity, you will continue on to the municipal theater, the Japanese neighborhood of Liberdade and Avenida Paulista, the main road through the financial and cultural centers. As you drive past Ibirapuera Park, you will notice that this lush urban oasis is one of the city’s popular.

Following a buffet lunch, you will continue to explore São Paulo by browsing the Pinacotéca art museum, the historical Luz railway station and the chic Jardins district. The Iguazú River Delta is located in the center of a sub-tropical forest spanning 457,000 acres and possesses unique characteristics that have made it an important economic and ecological reserve for its neighboring countries. On this post cruise adventure, you will visit the northeastern section of Argentina - an area that is inhabited by over 400 different varieties of birds and marks one of the most beautiful landscapes of the world.

80m high and 3km wide, the Iguazú Falls span the border between Argentina and Brazil and is made up of many cascades that generate vast sprays of water producing one of the most spectacular waterfalls known to mankind.

Special Note: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.

The majority of this program is wheelchair accessible however the program as a whole can be strenuous for guests with limited mobility. There are flights, on and off coaches, trains, boats and lots of walking. Each person should evaluate his/her own abilities before signing up.

The name Iguazú means Great Waters in Guarani. This natural wonder is taller and twice as wide than Niagara Falls and combines 275 falls in a massive, magnificent cascade stretching for nearly 1.7 miles. Situated on the border between Argentina and Brazil, its waters pass over lush, sub-tropical greenery. One of the most breathtaking sights you may see during your tour is the fluttering of more than 700 species of butterflies that make this area their home.

Upon arrival, you will be met by your local guide and then transferred to Iguazú Falls National Park. A buffet lunch will be served at La Selva Restaurant shortly after your arrival.

Following lunch, enjoy a motorized boat cruise (zodiac adventure ride) which allows you to view the falls from water level and get close enough to feel the spray and energy created by this great mass of falling water.

POST - AUTHENTIC BUENOS AIRES - 2024

Experience Buenos Aires like a local porteño by watching a traditional tango performance, visiting atmospheric neighborhoods, and enjoying an Argentine asado of grilled meats at a country ranch.

DAY 1

Following disembarkation, you will begin a half-day sightseeing tour of Buenos Aires, starting in the neighborhood La Boca, where you will view El Caminito, a street that is an open-air museum of sorts full of brightly colored buildings. Some claim the tango originated here around 1870, and tango dancers are often seen performing impromptu in the streets.

Then, it’s on to the affluent La Recoleta neighborhood and the Recoleta Cemetery, the final resting place for Argentina’s wealthy and powerful. It holds thousands of grandiose mausoleums containing the remains of generals, sports figures and most famously Evita.

A snack at Café Tortoni follows. This historic cafe has served as the artistic and intellectual capital of Buenos Aires since 1858, hosting notable guests such as Argentine author Jorge Luis Borges. Founded in 1858, the café is the oldest coffee shop in the country.

After touring the city, you will transfer to your hotel where the remainder of the day will be at your leisure. Lunch and dinner will be on your own.

DAY 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will spend the day at a traditional estancia ranch in the countryside, a beautiful land that is home to the gaucho. The owners will be your hosts, and during your stay, they will regale you with stories about the differences between modern country life and country life years ago.

Lunch will be a hearty asado of grilled meats with empanadas, accompanied by excellent Argentinean wines.

The entertainment will be just as outstanding. You will enjoy folk songs and dances, equestrian activities, and an extraordinary demonstration of traditional gaucho skills, such as ring races and horse races and games.

Following your time at the estancia, you will return to the hotel to spend the evening. Dinner will be on your own.

DAY 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will spend most of the daylight hours as you please. The hotel is centrally located in Buenos Aires, and there is plenty to enjoy nearby, including museums, shops and restaurants.

Your evening will be spent watching an authentic tango performance over dinner. Although the exact origin of the tango is unclear, there is no denying that the sultry dance is mesmerizing. The rhythmic music and mournful lyrics are just as alluring, as they often tell a story of lust, betrayal and loneliness. You don’t have to speak the language to feel the passion of tango.

After the tango performance, you will return to the hotel for the evening.

DAY 4

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before checking out (by 12:00pm) and transferring to the Ezeiza International Airport for your flight home. Transfers will be set up based on the flight details provided. Should you have a late flight, luggage storage is available at the hotel.

Following lunch, enjoy a motorized boat cruise (zodiacs) which allows you to view the falls from water level and get close enough to feel the spray and energy created by this great mass of falling water.

After the zodiac tour, check-in at your hotel and enjoy some free time to relax before dinner at the hotel.

POST - AUTHENTIC BUENOS AIRES - 2023

Experience Buenos Aires like a local porteño by watching a traditional tango performance, visiting atmospheric neighborhoods and enjoying an Argentine asado of grilled meats at country ranch.

The owners will be your hosts, and during your stay they will regale you with stories about the differences between modern country life and country life years ago.

Lunch will be a hearty asado of grilled meats with empanadas, accompanied by excellent Argentinean wines.

The entertainment will be just as outstanding. You will enjoy folk songs and dances, equestrian activities and an extraordinary demonstration of traditional gaucho skills, such as ring races and horse races and games.

DAY 4

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before checking out (by 12nn) and transferring to the Ezeiza International Airport for your flight home. Transfers will be set up based on the flight details provided. Should you have a late flight, luggage storage is available at the hotel.

POST - LAND OF THE GLACIERS

DAY 1

After disembarking the ship in Buenos Aires, you will be met and transferred to the Buenos Aires domestic airport. Bring only what is necessary for the next few days for the trip to El Calafate, including medications, valuables and documents. The bulk of your luggage will be collected when you disembark and brought to your hotel in Buenos Aires for storage. Please pack accordingly before disembarking and make sure that all bags to be left in storage are labeled with your name and ship cabin number.

When your flight lands in El Calafate, you will transfer to the 4-star Xelena Hotel in El Calafate.

DAY 3

Following breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will transfer to the airport for the flight back to Buenos Aires. Upon arrival, you will transfer to your hotel to check-in. Guests will be re-united with any stored luggage at this time.

After some time for lunch on your own the group will set out on a tour highlighting the city’s major neighborhoods and attractions.

No visit to Buenos Aires would be complete without a stop at the famous Biela Café – one of the most historic and prestigious bars in the city is also a favorite meeting place for Buenos Aires citizens.

Back at your hotel the evening is at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

DAY 4

After breakfast at the hotel and check out you will be transferred to the Buenos Aires International Airport based on the flight details provided. Should you have a later flight, luggage may be stored at the hotel until your transfer.
