In the Artist Loft with Noel Suarez

Join Artist-in-Residence Noel Suarez in Artist Loft this fall in the Mediterranean aboard Marina from October 28th through November 23rd. With so much history, culture and art in this corner of the world, Noel tells us he never tires of visiting destinations in the Mediterranean. We recently caught up with him to learn more about his plans for Artist Loft later this month and what projects he’s working on this fall.

Tells us about the workshops you plan to host during these voyages.
We’ll be in my favorite part of the world – the Adriatic, the Aegean and Ionian Seas so my workshops will be inspired by the amazing art in these regions. Some of the most important art, artists and styles originated in these magical areas, so I’m always excited to return to the Mediterranean. In a simple and approachable way, we’ll not only draw and learn about drawing techniques, but discover more about color, proportion, balance and composition – all of the important components of painting and the freedom of creativity.

What is your favorite thing about being an Artist-in-Residence aboard Oceania Cruises?
Traveling the world on Oceania Cruises’ beautiful ships surrounded by the amazing art collection and meeting interesting people from all over the world. It’s an honor to have many of them become collectors of my work. Also enjoying the ultimate culinary experiences on board… I always miss this when I leave!

Tell us about all of your upcoming plans – you have a lot of exciting events and projects in the works.
Yes, I have some very exciting projects coming up – first, my Orlando exhibit at Mills Gallery on October 11th, which benefits the Orlando Zebra Coalition. I created the painting representing the organization, so this is a special one for me. Then on December 3rd to the 8th, I have Miami’s Art Basel week, this time with Zenith Gallery. We’ll be at Basel’s Red Dot in Wynwood’s Mana Convention Center as well as at Zenith Gallery on Biscayne Boulevard at 14th Street. I’m also a part of fashion icon Patricia Field’s art and fashion exhibit in the Wynwood art district – I created an exciting project for this. The guests aboard Marina will see me working on some of the paintings I’ll be showing at Art Basel.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with guests that are sailing on one of your upcoming voyages and are maybe considering spending some time at Artist Loft but don’t know much about it?
Oceania Cruises offers this unique experience where you can learn to draw and paint and understand what’s behind creativity – and tap into your own unique creativity – while you travel to
amazing destinations . It doesn’t take much of your onboard time, especially during days at sea. I promise you will love the experience and that you’ll want to come back again and again.
